Singapore Design Week – Suntec City ForRest: Panelogue x Garnica Fireshield
Read the featured articleAt Singapore Design Week 2025, Panelogue and Garnica utilised Fireshield fire-resistant plywood to create the Suntec City ForRest installation, combining design, safety, and performance in a high-traffic public space.
Singapore Design Week 2025 brought together a series of creative interventions in high-traffic public spaces, where the materials used had to meet both aesthetic criteria and performance and safety requirements. In this context, Panelogue, Garnica's official distributor in Singapore, collaborated on an installation that combined visual design with clear technical performance.
High-impact urban design
The challenge of the Suntec City ForRest installation was to propose a structure that would excite the public without compromising safety. This required technical plywood that would allow for expressive shapes while meeting the fire performance requirements of a busy urban environment. Panelogue and Garnica shared the goal of providing a solution that would integrate both needs.
Creative freedom with safe material
The design required plywood that was suitable for temporary installations exposed to the public, compatible with demanding architectural forms and compliant with technical fire reaction standards. The choice was made to use fire-retardant plywood from Garnica's Fireshield range, designed to offer fire protection in interior and architectural projects.
Garnica Fireshield: performance and certifications
Fireshield is a fire-retardant plywood treated across its entire surface, which provides fire resistance even after machining or sanding. For the Suntec City ForRest installation, panels with a thickness of 12 mm and standard dimensions of 2500 × 1220 mm were used, selected for their suitability in public-facing, high-traffic environments.
Its certifications and features include:
- Class B certification (EN 13501-1) and tests carried out by TÜV SÜD PSB Singapore, complying with the standards of the Fire Safety & Shelter Department (FSSD) under the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
- Lightweight and easy to machine, allowing freedom of design and efficient execution in temporary or permanent projects.
These characteristics make Fireshield ideal for public installations, combining safety, technical performance and architectural expressiveness.
Safe, expressive and sustainable installation
The Suntec City ForRest installation achieved a perfect balance between visual impact and safety. The choice of Fireshield plywood allowed for the execution of expressive architectural forms, complying with local safety standards and maintaining the flexibility necessary for a temporary installation with high footfall. This project demonstrates how technical and sustainable plywood solutions can be successfully integrated into public installations and demanding architectural projects, extending their use beyond conventional interior applications.
