From sustainable plantations to high-quality European plywood

Rooted is our global commitment to sustainable growth, built on four pillars that guide our actions: regulatory compliance and traceability, climate action, innovation, and community engagement.

Rooted in Compliance. Responsible Sourcing and Full Traceability.

At Garnica, we are leaders and drivers of change in the transition towards local and sustainable raw materials, using wood sourced from fast-growing plantations located close to our production centres and responsibly managed by smallholders. All our manufacturing takes place within the European Union, ensuring full compliance with European regulations, including the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and guaranteeing that our wood is legally sourced and free from deforestation.

We operate under the strictest environmental and quality standards, using PEFC™ and FSC® certified materials, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified facilities, and rigorous due diligence processes. Our commitment goes beyond compliance, collaborating with organisations that promote sustainable forest management, such as Bosques y Ríos and ProPopulus.

Rooted in Climate Action. Positive Carbon Footprint

Poplar is a fast-growing species and one of the most efficient in CO₂ absorption, capturing an average of 22 tonnes per hectare per year. On average, it reaches maturity in 14 years.

Poplar plantations act as natural green filters, protecting river water from eutrophication and demonstrating strong resistance to flooding. This makes them compatible with flood-prone areas, where they also help regulate water flow and retain sediments.

Products derived from poplar are also significant carbon sinks. Each cubic metre of plywood has a net positive carbon balance of around 500 kg of CO₂, capturing between 650 and 700 kg over its life cycle.

Rooted in Innovation Sustainable Products and Manufacturing

We follow a lean production model based on sustainability and continuous improvement, making full use of resources by integrating by-products into our own processes or supplying them to other industries. The R&D initiative “Recircularity”, launched in 2021, explores new uses for sawdust to further close the loop.

Almost 100% of the energy we use comes from renewable sources, and all thermal energy is generated from biomass within our own facilities. In 2020, we received the official REDUZCO seal from the Spanish Government for our progress in energy efficiency and emissions reduction.

This commitment to responsible innovation is reflected in Naturbind, our plywood produced using a bio-based adhesive with no added formaldehyde, offering high performance and healthier indoor environments.

Rooted in Community. A Culture Grown with Our People and Land

By using locally sourced wood, we create value in rural areas and help improve the quality of life of the people who live there. Our production centres are mainly located in regions with low population density, often in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, generating both direct and indirect employment. It is estimated that one job is created for every two hectares of harvested poplar. These stable, high-quality jobs help retain population and attract talent, fostering long-term regional development.

Our culture is people-centred and grounded in equality throughout every stage of the employee journey. Through programmes focused on training, health, well-being, diversity and equal opportunities, we strengthen the sense of belonging and commitment to our values.

United with the UN to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

As members of the United Nations Global Compact, we actively support the 2030 Agenda and focus on nine Sustainable Development Goals aligned with our activity, from climate action and responsible production to decent work or innovation.
