Garnica will open a new plant, which will eventually produce finished plywood panels. The Treinta y Tres plant will become Garnica’s eighth facility.

Garnica will open a new plant in Uruguay, our first factory on the American continent, whose last stage will involve the production of finished plywood panels. The factory will be located in the city of Treinta y Tres, the region of the same name, in the northeast of the country.

The goal is to keep making steady progress through a project whose last stage will involve the production of finished plywood panels. In that final phase, Garnica plans to create more than 150 jobs, representing a great source of high-quality employment in the region.

Our new Uruguayan plant will serve us in two ways. First, it will provide access to a new type of wood, Eucalyptus grandis, cultivated on local FSC® certified tree farms. Secondly, it reinforces our sustainability strategy, which is to promote the use of tree farm wood while encouraging innovation and rural area development.

Uruguay has been actively promoting its national forestry industry as one of its strategic sectors for the past three decades. Currently there are more than 1.1 million hectares of sustainable tree farms, ensuring a guaranteed supply line for a flourishing forestry industry. Garnica chose Uruguay due to its high level of professionalism in the forestry industry, its stability, and access to quality raw materials with the highest sustainability standards.

"It's an incredible opportunity for us to continue to grow and boost our international presence," Garnica's CEO, Christian Michel, stated. "The strategic location of this new plant in Uruguay will allow us to increase our production capacity, diversify our raw materials, and expand our products portfolio."

Construction is anticipated to start in the next few months, and production will begin in 2024. The land transfer was made on April 18, 2023. The following day, the Uruguayan Minister of Work and Social Security, Pablo Mieres, received the Garnica team to highlight the value of the project, as it represents a significant source of quality employment in the area.

The launch of this new plant will bring the total number of Garnica's factories up to eight, enabling us to keep improving and diversifying our raw materials, products and manufacturing processes, as well as helping us strengthen our international presence and worldwide visibility.
